Lead Institute student Kaihil Charles is Dominica’s Top performer at this year’s 2016 Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examinations (CAPE). Charles, a first-year Accounts major in Lead Institute’s Associate of Arts in Business, obtained four grade ones and one grade 2 in the five CAPE units taken in the exams.
He was awarded grade ones in Account Unit 1, Management Unit 1, Entrepreneurship Unit 1, and Integrated Math, and a grade two in Communication Studies.
An elated Charles attributed his success at the CAPE exams to hard work and the support of his parents. “Although I was not very surprised when I saw my results online, I did feel relieved. The sense of relief came from knowing that my hard work was not in vain, and I continue to thank Jehovah for blessing my efforts” he said.
Charles however was somewhat surprised by his number one ranking. “What really surprised me was that I ranked first for the CAPE Examinations in Dominica” …although “I paid no attention to ranking…. I have never viewed my education as a competition because I was raised with the mentality that education is a tool we acquire to better ourselves and help others, but not an opportunity to parade over others” he said.
Charles’s top performance was followed by Iyka Dorival’s, a first Year Law student at Lead Institute. Dorival secured three grade ones and one grade three in the four CAPE Units taken in the exams. She obtained grade ones in Caribbean Studies, Law Unit 1, Communication Studies and a grade three in Literature Unit 1. She accredited her performance to hard work, consistency and her dedication and love for learning. In recognition of their scholastic achievement, Lead Institute will present both Charles and Dorival with partial scholarships that will go towards tuition payment during the second year of studies.
Other noteworthy performances and rounding off the top five positions at Lead Institute, were Zikomo Joseph, Destiny Pascal and Chedis Joseph.
