Six new Dominican students have been granted scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies at Midwestern State University (MWSU) in Texas in August. The students will be enrolled in a variety of disciplines including Finance and Accounting, Business Administration, Manufacturing Engineering, Pre-medicine and Computer Science.
Dr. Randy Glean, Director of International Student Services at MWSU, will officially meet with the students at a mandatory orientation on Tuesday June 18th at 2:30 pm at the conference room of the Division of Labour. Among other things, the students will be presented with their I-20 forms. Dr. Glean will also host a general orientation on Wednesday June 19th at 4:30 pm at the Public Service Training Center on Bayfront in Roseau, for students wishing to access scholarships to study at the university.
Among other things, “the general orientation seeks to provide prospective students with first-hand information on MWSU’s Caribbean Recruitment Programme, admissions and scholarship application process, a general overview of college life and an opportunity to seek clarification on any issues they may have about studying in the US” says David Vital, Local Programme Coordinator.
To date, more than 150 Dominican students have earned degrees from MWSU since 1995 and thirty-five students are currently enrolled, making it the second largest contingent from the Caribbean. The six Dominican students form part of the seventeen from the Eastern Caribbean granted scholarships this fall and will be part of the over 1000 who have been recruited in the 19 year history of the program. The government of Dominica provides support to individual students and to the programme in general.
