Nigel Peters, a Business Studies Major at Lead Institute, was on February 10th, crowned Mr. Dominica 2012 at the Arawak House of Culture. The twenty-six (26) year old Peters who hails from the town of Portsmouth had to overcome stiff challenges from the other six competitors to win the first-ever Mr. Dominica title.
Peters was also awarded the prize for Best Interview and Best in Magnificent Wear. An elated Peters said he was pleased to be adjudged the winner of the first-ever Mr. Dominica 2012. “It feels good to have won this competition. More importantly, I am thankful for the opportunity to have showcased my talent and make a positive contribution to the development of culture in Dominica” he said.
Rounding off the top three positions were first runner-up Shannah Robin of Marigot who was also awarded the prize for Best Performing Talent. Kester Edwards of Goodwill was second runner-up. He also cupped the prize for Best Formal Wear. Participants in the all-male pageant were assessed in magnificent wear (30 pts), performing talents (45 pts), beachwear (40 pts), formal wear (45 pts) and interview (45 pts). For magnificent wear, Peters was decked in a bird-like costume themed “Bird in Courtship”.
Peters will receive, among his winnings, a Blackberry 8520 mobile phone and one-year free internet service from Lime and EC$3000.00 prize money from the show organizers. The Lead Institute Family wishes to congratulate Mr. Dominica Nigel Peters on his achievements. Peters is due to graduate from Lead Institute with a CXC/CAPE Associate Degree in Business Studies in May 2013.
